About

Tourism is about expectations: creating, meeting, managing, surpassing for all of the the individual groups who are involved with, and affected by a cultural or natural place that attracts visitors. There are also associated challenges with sustaining the nature, viability and economic well-being of local communities that live in and around these venues and how tourism can serve more as a positive, rather than detrimental factor.

There are challenges to be faced with the increasing number of tourists; the world surpassed the 1 billion mark in 2014, according to the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Cultural capitals, national parks, monuments and sites are facing unforeseen demands that require strategies and approaches that still allow revenue to be generated, while providing some sort of stability and resilience for destinations.

MAC-DUFF Tourism | Heritage | Planning works with partners in Canada and around the globe to assess and identify what the issues are affecting destinations, how these challenges can be met, the approaches that can best support local communities and the cultural and natural resources where they live, the revenue goals of individual stakeholders, and the intents of visitors looking for a unique, memorable experience.
